Assamese film “Aamis” shines at Singapore: Bhaskar Hazarika, Lima Das bag coveted awards
“Aamis”, the second feature film directed by Bhaskar Hazarika bagged two prestigious awards at the 2019 Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (SgSAIFF). Bhaskar Hazarika got the Best Director award and Lima Das, featuring in her debut film, received the Best Actor (Female) award. The film’s editor Shweta Rai Chamling was also nominated for the Best Editor award.
It may be mentioned that Bhaskar Hazarika’s first feature “Kothanodi” won National Award for Best Assamese Film for the year 2015. At the prestigious Singapore film festival, he was joint Best Director award winner with Sumitra Bhave for her film “Dithee”.
On the other hand, famous Malayalam director Dr Biju’s “Veyilmarangal” had won the Best Actor (Male) award for its leading man Indrans who is a popular actor having won Kerala state award very recently.
The festival came to a close with the announcement of the awards on 7 September. The closing film was “Section 375”, an Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha starrer courtroom drama. It was the film’s world premiere. Directed by Ajay Bahl, the feature is based on the rape laws in India and sheds light on Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code.
