Recognition Of Female Sexuality In Cinema

Topic

Recognition of Female Sexuality in South Asian Cinema presented by Nutzaboutme.com.

Women like it, need it, and want it… just as much as they do,” declared Vidya Balan when asked what that one thing was, that men needed to know about women but didn’t. South Asia cinema has largely shied away from show casing female sexuality or has only shown it in a metaphorical way through songs and philosophy.

Is a nuanced and honest depiction of sexual desires of women possible in the current socio-political context? Does cinema have a serious responsibility of bringing healthy female sexuality out of the closet?

Namita Lal, known for her work on stage and on screen in Ismat Chughtai’s Lihaaf will discuss these issues with an eminent group of panelists.
