Synopsis : Chitrokar is based on the life of one of India’s most celebrated painters, Benode Behari Mukherjee. The film relates an episode in the life of blind artist Bijon, depicting his turbulent yet life changing association with Tithi, a young strong headed artist who works with Bijon on a project to create a mural for an exclusive restaurant in the city of Kolkata. Their relationship unfolds in the film through the gradual progression of the mural itself, as they battle their diverse viewpoints about life and art. Bijon’s blindness has not stopped him from creating ‘beauty’ and instead enables him to imagine in new ways. For whom does a painter paint? This is one of the questions that deeply haunts Bijon. Chitrokar, presents the tension between how the world is and how radically and wondrously it can be imagined through the painter’s ‘inner’ eyes.
